University Professional Development

Our Purpose

University Professional Development (UPD), formerly known as University Leadership Development, serves Virginia Tech by providing leadership, management and individual development programs to staff and faculty. We also provide strategic planning services to improve productivity and efficiency. Whether you are an individual wanting to develop your skills, a faculty member, or an administrator needing to more effectively guide your team - we can help you succeed.

UPD provides quality customized programs and services in the following four major areas:

Leadership Development

Our leadership development program is designed and customized to meet the unique development needs of VT faculty, A/P faculty, and staff in pay bands 5 and above who lead and manage faculty and/or staff.

Management Development

Our management development workshops are designed for VT managers in pay bands 4 and below who have supervisory responsibility.

Individual Development

UPD offers numerous other programs that provide individual professional development opportunities for any and all Virginia Tech employees who want to take ownership of their careers.

Strategic Planning Services

UPD provides strategic planning services designed to improve productivity and efficiency for colleges, departments, or work groups in the University community.
